Everyday the world faces the dire reality of climate change and a laundry list of environmental threats. One afternoon, after a 2.5 hour ride from Korea-Town to Griffith Park, I couldn’t help think about all the smog I had inhaled and how it affected my ability to breathe. The reality was that there was nothing I could do to change the situation, cars will always be present, cars = smog / pollution and an all around crappy cycling experience, well thats how it goes in my head at least. This is just one of many challenges facing the world in the 21st century, the threat of climate change shows that our present culture of consumption is unsustainable. Every single of one our actions, from the cars we drive, food we eat, and the electricity that powers our offices & homes, everything we do produces a carbon footprint. So I ask the questions “How can we contribute?” I’m not here to preach on what to do or not do for that matter, but the truth is that we can all contribute in small ways that will equal one big change in the end. For starters we can be more aware of our actions and the resulting consequences, think of friendlier forms of transportation, be mindful of wasting products, conserve water / electricity, the list goes on.
